The Influence of Contextual Factors on Teachers’ Cognitions on Use of Instructional Media in English Language Pedagogy in Secondary Schools in Kenya

Teachers' cognitions, that are knowledge, beliefs and thoughts, shape their pedagogical activities. This paper examined the influence of contextual factors on teachers' cognitions instructional media use in English language pedagogy among secondary school teachers Kenya. Schools were categorized as National, Extra-County, County Sub-county. Simple random sampling was utilized to obtain fifteen schools participated study. Fifteen (15) heads department purposefully selected interviewed, while thirty (30) randomly selected, interviewed observed class. The study guided by Vygotsky social learning theory. Qualitative approach Multiple Case method line with interpretivist-constructivist paradigm. Data analyzed thematically presented narrative form. findings revealed influenced such type, institutional support, colleagues, syllabus, learners mode evaluation.
